What will Google Caffeine Mean for Your Business?

Is Your Site Ready for Google Caffeine? The first thing you should know is that Google makes changes to its indexing and search results algorithm (the complex formula Google uses to rank and index web pages) all the time without public notice.  However, "Google Caffeine" is considered a major overhaul and they've announced that it will be in full effect just after the holidays.

Google Caffeine pledges to offer better service to its users by increasing results speed, accuracy and comprehensiveness.

How does that affect you?
Well, it could have significant impact on your search engine results and rankings, which depending upon your SEO practices, could be for the good or the bad.

Though Google never reveals all their ranking secrets and there is much speculation online between bloggers, SEO "specialists," and webmasters, Google is making two things very clear:

  • Having original and useful content and making your site search engine friendly is the best strategy for better ranking. With an appealing site, the web community will recognize you as a reliable source and, in addition, links to your site will build naturally.
  • Site Speed, how fast your site loads to the viewer, will play a part in its ranking

What does "Appealing" and "Search Engine Friendly" Mean?
Appealing:  Evoking or attracting interest, desire, curiosity or the like; attractive.
In it's most basic sense, having an appealing web site means that the look is pleasing to the eye and representative of your business, it is easy to navigate, and most importantly, it contains accurate, useful and unique information written for humans.

Search Engine Friendly:  Easily crawled by various software program search bots—also called spiders, robots, indexers—that search for new data across the world wide web.  No matter what SEO "experts" may tell you, there are no magic pills or secrets to having a search engine friendly web site.  There are, however, several things that are basic to making your site search engine friendly, or search engine optimized, that can be summed up with two words… Page Quality.

What we at 4054600.com consider "quality" are pages and sites that have:

  • Quick load time
  • Accurate, unique information that is written for humans (rather than bots)
    and regularly updated
  • Unique page titles and meta data
  • Easy, descriptive navigation
  • No broken links or link 'farm' participation
  • Quality images with alt tags
  • A call to action
  • Sitemap

These are the basic things that we believe will help maintain or promote your current status not only with Google Caffeine, but also with all search engines.  These 'white hat' web solutions may not sound cool, glitter, or promise you improved rankings in 24 hours… but they will get you a win in the long run.

Now, just for entertainment… here are some excerpts of the 'speculation' that is looming around online that I found while reading various blogs and web marketing sites.

"… one of the areas Caffeine will be addressing or incorporating is "Social BookMarking," that is the number of social bookmarks a page receives will determine how high it is ranked.  I also believe one of the major reasons these bookmarks will become much more important has to do with the whole nasty issue of link buying."

"… has the importance of backlinking been downplayed in this new index in favor of the keyworded domain and onsite content and optimization? Has there been a major shift to listing more quality content rather than relying on the number of backlinks a site is receiving, even from important related themed sites? The major problem and question to Google is this: if links can be bought, how do you keep your organic results democratic and fair, which was the original intention of Larry Page and Sergey Brin when they started Google in 1998.  One possible solution is social bookmarking."

"… how much emphasis or ranking power will it place on "Keyworded Domains," domain names which have your keyword or keyword phrase in them. Will these domains be ranked higher?  Just common sense really, someone searching for "brown widgets" will more likely than not find that item at a domain called brownwidgets(dot)com or brownwidget(dot)com. The major SEO reasoning, all your backlinks will inherently have your searched keyword in the URL, thus bringing it up in the rankings."

"… have all the smart people at Google designed the new Google Caffeine to reflect the growing importance of the keyworded domain? Of course, we can only speculate when it comes to just what Google is planning and doing with its next generation search engine, but will onsite factors and your domain name play a greater role in their organic SERPs?"
